Bottom sash moves up and down; top sash stays fixed. The most basic and affordable window — best for a tighter budget.

Both sashes are operable. Great for ventilation and easier to clean, especially above the first floor.

What's actually inside an impact window.
- Laminated glass
- Two panes bonded with a shatter-resistant interlayer, forming a single 'sandwich' that holds together even if cracked from the outside.
- Thermoplastic spacer (TPS)
- An air-tight spacer and sealant system that maintains thermal insulation and prevents condensation and seal failures.
- Insulating air space
- The barrier between panes slows heat transfer and dissipates sound — argon gas can be added for even greater efficiency.
- UV performance coating
- A molecular-bonded coating that reduces heat buildup in your home, saving on cooling costs and protecting furniture from fading.

- What's the difference between an aluminum and vinyl frame?
- Vinyl is made from unplasticized polyvinyl chloride — strong, non-corrosive, and naturally insulating, which makes it better for energy efficiency. Aluminum is structurally very strong, allowing slimmer, more modern profiles with larger glass.
- What is Low-E glass?
- A microscopically thin, transparent metallic coating applied to the glass that controls how heat and light pass through the window, keeping your home cooler without sacrificing natural light.
- What is a privacy window?
- A window type — often frosted or textured glass — that lets natural light in while limiting or blocking visibility from the outside. PGT also offers Turtle Glass, tinted to protect the natural habitat of marine turtles on Florida's coast.
- What is Argon gas, and why does it matter?
- Argon gas fills the cavity between panes and slows heat transfer through the glass. In the Florida summer, it helps keep cool air in and warm air out — a strong, low-cost insulator.
- What's the difference between the SGD5570 and SGD5570NS?
- Both are impact-rated PGT sliding glass doors. The SGD5570 has a 4.28" panel profile, while the SGD5570NS uses a narrower 2.5" profile for a more contemporary, minimal sightline. Both are available in Bypass, Pocket, 90° corner, and 135° corner configurations.
- Do black or bronze windows cost more than white?
- Yes, though the difference varies by brand — anywhere from $100–$200 more per window on some lines to $600–$800 more on others.
